US-2000

Tascam’s eight-channel HS-8 and two-channel HS-2 solid-state recorders have been designed for multitrack recording and playback to solid-state media as alternatives to DAT and eight-track tape decks. Both units include SMPTE time code and RS422 for broadcast and postproduction applications.

Up to 192kHz, 24-bit recording formats are available on both units, and a mixer is built into the HS-8 for monitoring (the stereo mix can be recorded as a security track). Like the portable HS-P82, the HS-8 and HS-2 use a colour touch-screen interface to access settings and tracks, for which the audio is recorded as WAV files to a compact flash media. A pair of CF card slots are also available for data mirroring or continuous recording.

Tascam is now shipping the SS-R05 entry-level solid-state rack-mount recorder, which lacks some of the features associated with the SS-R1, such as balanced audio and RS232C control to create a lower-price point. The one unit height recorder allows solid-state recording to compact flash media, unbalanced RCA line input/output and a PS/2 keyboard input for folder/file naming and remote control.

The US-2000 is a 1U-high 16-input audio interface, offering eight XLR microphone inputs with phantom power and two condenser microphone inputs on a front panel featuring a 100-LED meter bridge for setting input and output levels. An additional six balanced quarter-inch line inputs are provided, together with four balanced line outs and a stereo digital I/O. The US-2000 connects to a computer through high-speed USB 2.0, and includes Cubase LE4 48-track recording software, together with flexible hardware controls for zero-latency monitoring during recording.

The VL-M3 is a stereo monitor for home recording, computer use and mixing. Housed in a black wood-grain finish, they feature 3-inch drivers with a front-mounted bass port and integrated 24W stereo power amplifier and come with stereo unbalanced RCA inputs.
