Utah Scientific has announced its Utah-400 routers and Utah-100/XFD fibre distribution frames are now available with the Flex I/O signal module.
According to the manufacturer, with Flex I/O, a broadcaster or user can customise the use of signals according to the specific needs of a given application, resulting in a ‘maximised’ use of router resources that supports streamlined operations whilst reportedly lowering operational costs
Regarding the Utah-400 router, the Flex I/O option consists of input and output cards that carry either eight or 12 signals, whilst an updated rear-panel provides access for the converter blocks.
Utah Scientific describes the Flex I/O module as an ‘intrinsic’ part of its Utah-100/XFD fibre distribution frame. According to the application's needs, each module can be user-configured with a total of four fully independent channels to deliver up to 16 channels of optical/electrical or electrical/optical conversion. For each individual module, coax I/O consists of eight ports, with four dedicated as output and four as Flex I/O, either inputs or outputs. Each module also incorporates four Flex I/O optical ports able to serve as either inputs or outputs.
When combined with the fibre/coax flexibility of a Utah-400 routing switcher, Utah Scientific reports that the Utah-100/XFD becomes an ‘ideal’ system for any installation where fibre and coax work side by side.
The Utah-400 routing switcher also features new embedded audio signal processing, courtesy of new I/O boards that rely on field-programmable gate array (FPGA) technology to perform signal processing
Utah Scientific reports it has built advanced signal processing into the router's I/O board, meaning it can decode a signal into its component data streams without compromising the router's overall operational reliability. As a result, audio channels are shuffled automatically without an outboard device or the need for manual intervention.
