Video Devices updates PIX-E series

Video Devices has introduced multiple new features to its PIX-E series of 4K-compatible recording monitors, including the addition of the H.264 codec and the ability to simultaneously record both an edit-ready Apple ProRes file and a more compact H.264 MP4 file. They are part of a free download for PIX-E consumers.
The H.264 codec offers low data rates and compact file sizes and is commonly used for web streaming and long duration recording, allowing for quicker file uploads and easier emailing of recorded files. PIX-E users can now give clients an H.264 file for content review, shot-listing or web streaming, while the high-resolution 4K ProRes file can be used for mastering. Additionally, H.264 content can be put onto an SD card, allowing it to be easily transferrable.
An applied LUT is baked into the H.264 MP4 file and saved via SD card. The master ProRes 4k file is saved to the Video Devices’ SpeedDrive without an applied LUT. This reportedly allows for simultaneous recording of a full dynamic range, log-encoded ProRes master file for the edit suit and a REC709 H.264 file suitable for client viewing. While recording 4K in ProRes, the PIX-E will automatically scale to 1080p for recording H.264, reducing its file size. Both recordings also include audio, with up to eight channels for ProRes and two channels for H.264.
The PIX-E recording monitors feature a die-cast aluminium chassis with Gorilla Glass 2. The monitors are available with a 1920x1080 resolution for the PIX-E5 and PIX-E5H, or 1920x1200 resolution for the PIX-E7 LCD displays, which offer a 179-degree viewing angle.
