Crown has introduced a new line of MI amplifiers with the XLS series – four new models that use a flexible PureBand Crossover System.
Crown has introduced a new line of MI amplifiers with the XLS series – four new models that use a flexible PureBand Crossover System. Users can select crossover points from 50Hz to 3kHz, allowing precise matching to most bi-amplified loudspeakers. Control is also offered by three selectable channel modes and clip limiters designed to protect loudspeakers, which can be turned on and off on a per-channel basis. The XLS series uses high-resolution DSP for its flexible PureBand crossover system and proprietary PeakX driver protection limiting, which allow higher output levels than conventional analogue limiting. The amplifiers also feature Integrated DriveCore Technology. They also provide fast recovery on peaks, accurate reproduction of low-level detail and precise tracking of low frequencies at high power level. A front panel LCD offers menu-based system set-up and diagnostics. The amplifiers are housed in a new industrial design chassis, with a durable cast front panel and integrated rack handles.
DriveCore is a proprietary hybrid analogue-digital integrated circuit (IC) that drives the front end of the class-D output stage. Placed in the signal chain between the DSP module and the main power output devices, and driven fully balanced from the D-to-A converter stage, DriveCore incorporates highly refined feedback circuits and a single synchronous clock. The DSP and switch-mode power supply clocks are both synchronised to the PWM master clock for optimum overall system stability. Other notable technology features and benefits of DriveCore Technology include feedback and PWM modulation circuits offering fast recovery on peak transients, accurate reproduction of low-level detail and precise tracking of low frequencies at high power levels for maximum subwoofer output. Weighing less than 5kg, the XLS1000, 1500, 2000 and 2500 models in the XLS series provide between 350W and 775W/channel power output, which come equipped with XLR, RCA and quarter-inch jack output connections.
