XY stereo condenser from Audio Technica

The AT2022 stereo condenser microphone has been added to Audio Technica’s range, boasting two unidirectional condenser capsules in an X/Y configuration pivot to allow for 90-degree (narrow) or 120-degree (wide) stereo operation.

Boasting switchable flat-response or low-frequency roll-off (via an integral 80Hz high-pass filter), the microphone also includes a 0.5m cable terminating in a 3-pin XLRF-type and a 3.5mm connector, while the output of the microphone is a 3-pin XLRM-type connector. The included AT8405a stand clamp permits mounting on any microphone stand.

Also new for the manufacturer is the BP893 MicroEarset omni-directional condenser headworn mic, intended for theatrical performances, houses of worship and broadcast studios.

The microphone includes a 55-inch (1.4-meter) permanently attached miniature cable. Its free end connects to the provided AT8539 power module via a locking four-pin connector. The connector is also compatible with all A-T UniPak body-pack transmitters. The output of the power module is a three-pin XLRM-type connector.

The microphone requires 11V to 52V phantom power for operation. A recessed switch in the power module permits the choice of flat response or low-frequency roll-off. The microphone is also available in a variety of wireless models, including the BP893cW.

Finally, the ATW-CHG2 two-bay recharging station has been created for use with the manufacturer’s new 2000 Series wireless transmitters, charging the ATW-T220a handheld transmitters or ATW-T210a UniPak transmitters (in any combination).

A built-in safety feature monitors cell voltage and automatically turns off the unit if problems are detected. The unit will also automatically turn off if damaged or alkaline (non-rechargeable) batteries are installed. Maintenance charging prevents battery self-discharge until the transmitter is removed from the charger. Two AA 2000 mAh Ni-MH rechargeable batteries are included.
