Yamaha’s MY4-AEC troubleshoots echo cancellation

In response to requests from DME series customers requiring a dedicated processor that can solve the issue of echo cancellation in large-scale applications, Yamaha Pro Audio has released the MY4-AEC Echo Canceller card.

The MY4-AEC includes four channels of adaptive echo cancelling which can automatically find the appropriate setting of AEC according to the chosen environment and the equipment being used. According to the manufacturer, the MY4-AEC can remove delays up to a maximum of 400m and can provide clear sound when used in very large rooms or for long distance conferencing.

For large conference rooms or auditoriums where microphones are used with a PA for voice amplification, the MY4-AEC's four-channel feedback suppressor employs 42 notch filter bands per channel. Any constant, disturbing fan or air conditioning noise can be subdued by the card’s noise reduction function.

The MY4-AEC boasts a frequency range of 20-20kHz, and has a sampling rate of 48kHz, but it can be used in 96kHz systems by reducing capacity from four to two channels. To facilitate the use of other digital equipment, the MY4-AEC card has a four-channel AES/EBU I/O, and the I/O ports have sampling rate converters ensuring easy connection to equipment with different sampling rates.

The manufacturer reports that with the addition of DME Designer V4.0, it is possible to optimise the performance of all the Acoustic Echo Canceller parameters.
