ZEDi range combines mixer and interface

UK manufacturer Allen & Heath is combining the same analogue circuitry found in its ZED range of consoles with 24-bit, 96kHz interfaces to form the ZEDi range of hybrid devices. Additionally, two ‘mini-mixers’ have joined the regular ZED range, named the ZED-6 and ZED-6FX.
The ZEDi range first appeared in the shape of the ZEDi-8, which combines a compact mixer with a 2x2 USB interface for use with either a Mac, PC or an iOS device (via a Camera Connection kit). Since that unit’s launch, the range has been extended with the ZEDi-10 and ZEDi-10FX, both of which feature a 4x4 interface.
Described by Allen & Heath as targeted not just at artists but also A/V applications, they feature options for flexible source routing to accommodate varied workflows and come bundled with Cubase LE and Cubasis LE. The ZEDi-10FX also boasts onboard multi-effects such as reverb, delay, doubler and chorus. All three models incorporate the manufacturer’s GSPre preamp, derived from the GS-R24. Other features include a moulded chassis and metal front panel, 3-band EQ, 60mm faders, channel monitoring and 48V phantom power.
Meanwhile, the ZED-6, ZED-6FX are intended as more compact versions of the existing analogue range. Both mixers have two mono channels with separate XLR and TRS jack sockets and two stereo channels. The mono channels include DI circuitry while the FX model again has onboard effects. The GSPre preamp is also included.
