AIMS welcomes new members

WORLD: AIMS, the Alliance for IP Media Solutions, has announced the addition of three new member companies – Embrionix, Panasonic Corporation and Tektronix.
Easily the biggest of the three companies is Panasonic, whose involvement the alliance describes as ‘of major significance in the broadcast and A/V content industries’. ‘Panasonic is a proud supporter of AIMS and its roadmap,’ enthused Kunihiko Miyagi, director of Panasonic’s professional A/V business unit. ‘The transition to IP brings exciting creative possibilities, the opportunity for new workflows and solutions, and a positive force for change. Creating an end-to-end ecosystem built on existing standards, enables the ease of use and interoperability that is an important enabler to the changing production landscape.’
‘With respect to Embrionix’s core values, we will follow the recommended standards proposed by the AIMS alliance. We are committed to implementing these standards within our emSFPs products to facilitate the interoperability in this transition to IP,’ said Renaud Lavoie, CEO of Qubec-based Embrionix, which manufacturers SMPTE video SFP devices to bridge the gap between various optical and coaxial SDI deployments, as well as emerging deployments including HDMI, composite video and Ethernet.
Also joining the alliance is Tektronix, an industry name in test and measurement equipment. Today, the company’s portfolio and services extend across the breadth of broadcast network and transmission formats and standards, including the latest IP-based protocols. ‘As an early provider of products enabling the transition to IP-based video workflows, Tektronix has been involved in a number of proofs of concept,’ said Paul Robinson, CTO of the Tektronix video product line. ‘It is clear from this experience that having vendors working closely together to ensure interoperability will be of tremendous benefit to our customers. Interoperability is key to the successful adoption and deployment of any set of new standards and at Tektronix we are delighted to be able to contribute to AIMS.’
