IABM honorary member Graham Roe passes away

WORLD: IABM has announced the passing of one of its honorary members, Graham Roe, following a 20-year battle with Parkinson’s disease. Mr Roe spent many years on the trade association’s technical committee, representing it at SMPTE meetings, before receiving honorary member status in 2006.

Starting his career at the BBC, Mr Roe would join Pro-Bel as a technical director in 1978, where is creditted with driving much of the company’s growth. ‘Graham was universally liked and respected both technically and as a mild, modest person,’ recalled Derek Owen, Pro-Bel co-founder and IABM non-executive director. ‘He was also an excellent public speaker – relaxed, knowledgeable and able to speak without notes on a broad range of topics, and was much sought after for lectures and conferences, to which he gave his time freely.’

Mr Roe is survived by his five children and was reported to have kept an active mind up until his final days, during which he had been reading engineering magazines.

‘IABM extends its deepest sympathy to his family at this difficult time,’ said IABM CEO, Peter White. ‘Over those years, he made a massive contribution to the development of IABM. The industry will miss his incisive, clear thinking and the enormous experience he brought to bear on what would otherwise have been difficult issues.’
