InfoComm 2017 kicks off

WORLD: The seemingly endless aisles within Orlando’s Orange County Convention Centre (OCCC) are once again home to almost 1,000 exhibitors showcasing the latest A/V technologies from around the world. The numerous audio, video, lighting, digital signage and control technologies embraced on the show floor are balanced by some 25+ audio demonstration rooms off the show floor. No fewer than 300 educational seminars had already taken place as part of the CTS programme prior to the ceremonial ribbons being cut and whilst the show floor was off limits, the adjacent audio demonstration rooms were accessible.

As in previous years, the show’s location draws a unique audience for which more individuals from Latin America, the Caribbean, Europe and of course the Eastern seaboard of the USA are evident. Visitor numbers are expected to surpass the 40,000 mark over the three-day event. Some of the early bird arrivals were allowed to sneak matinee performances in the audio demonstration rooms where Community promoted an extension to its I-series, L-Acoustics promoted Syva and its L-ISA immersive sound reinforcement and RCF showcased its ART series speakers, HDL6 line array system/Sub8003A subwoofers with the latest FIR-Phase settings.

Celebrating its 15th anniversary, Alcons Audio teamed up with fellow Dutch innovator Astro Spatial Audio to promote immersive audio technology incorporating an Alcons cinema system and Sara 3D. Immersive audio technology appears to be in vogue this year, as Meyer Sound promotes its established Constellation system and Music demonstrated its Klark Teknik Reverb Twenty Four 3D multi-channel reverb processor through an extensive Tannoy Di8 system. Meanwhile, dB Technologies plugged in its ES1203 speaker system operating via the Aurora Net software in addition to the VIO S318 and S118 subwoofers. As debuted at Frankfurt’s Pro Light + Sound, Martin Audio meanwhile showcased its Wavefront Precision, XE and LE stage monitors together with the iKON amplifier and KV2 Audio explained the design philosophy behind its VHD 5.0 technology.

As the show goes on there will be plenty of continued interest in audio-over-IP networking, 4K technology and an increasing use of drones. But for the audio demonstrators, their bespoke rooms will continue to draw healthy visitor numbers.
