NAMM turns to solar power for HQ

WORLD: The California headquarters of NAMM has been equipped with solar panels intended to ‘drastically cut the association’s energy costs, while lightening the building’s overall environmental impact’. Located in the town of Carlsbad, the building now benefits from 714 solar panels, reducing the association’s electricity costs by more than 98 per cent.
Following almost a year of planning and installation, the panels now cover the parking lot of the headquarters, keeping visitors in the shade while generating electricity. According to NAMM president and CEO, Joe Lamond, the resulting savings will be funnelled into the association’s industry work.
‘Reducing expenses at the industry headquarters allows us to direct more resources toward achieving our vision, mission and objectives,’ explained Mr Lamond. ‘Over the next two decades this solar installation will achieve our energy reduction goals, while saving the association more than a million dollars, money that can be reinvested into promoting music and music education around the world.’
The new system is designed to produce 359,453kWh per year including a dual station car charger for electric vehicles.
