Røde’s Peter Freedman named member of the Order of Australia

AUSTRALIA: Røde Microphones founder, Peter Freedman, has been inaugurated as a member of the Order of Australia. The award, which was established by Queen Elizabeth II in 1975, is given for achievement or service to the community at large. Mr Freedman was awarded the honour as recognition of his ‘significant services to business, manufacturing and export, and his philanthropic support of cultural events’.
‘To be recognised at the highest level, by the greatest country in the world and for work within an industry you love, is for me the pinnacle of success,’ commented Mr Freedman. ‘To say I am honoured, and so very humbled, is an understatement.’
The award highlights Mr Freedman’s involvement in initiatives such as the Innovative Manufacturing Cooperative Research Center (IMCRC), and Microsoft’s 'JoinedUp Innovation' programme has regularly invited him as a presenter and opinion leader to prestigious educational institutions both locally and internationally. Røde has also been a multiple Australian Exports Awards winner, and has reportedly been called a leader in the Australian manufacturing sector by some of the country’s most senior politicians and leading academics.
Mr Freedman is also a sponsor of the Sydney Festival and a founding member of the festival’s 40th anniversary fund, which has been established to nurture Australian musicians and artists. ‘I am extremely thrilled with this long-overdue recognition of Peter’s work in an industry I’ve always been passionate about myself,' said Sydney Festival director, Lieven Bertels. 'His help towards Sydney Festival has made a huge difference in our 40th anniversary celebrations this year.’
