Sennheiser hosts Digital 6000 launch event
Published: WORLD

WORLD: Sennheiser recently held a special launch event as it prepares to release the Digital 6000. The launch took place in the manufacturer’s home city of Hanover and saw several hundred members of the pro audio industry invited to the Radisson Blu hotel.
The event began with a presentation that began with a speech from company CEO Dr Andreas Sennheiser. This was followed by discussion from COO Peter Claussen regarding the Agile development methodology utilised during the Digital 6000’s production, a first on the hardware side at Sennheiser.
Greg Beebe, director live performance and music, then took to the stage to converse with product manager, Tom Vollmers, exploring the Digital 6000 in detail, as well as the development process. A short ‘making of’ film was played to those in attendance, which highlighted the RF testing process performed at Hamburg’s O2 Arena, a reportedly challenging RF environment. Under the tagline ‘No Compromises’, it was stated that the Digital 6000 is ‘intermodulation free’ with 244MHz of switching bandwidth.
Mr Beebe and Mr Vollmers remained onstage, welcoming Gerrit Buhe, director of product development for Sennheiser’s pro division, for a Q&A session. During this session, it was mentioned that the WSM 4.3 Wireless Systems Manager software would be receiving a firmware update to version 4.3 shortly, to accommodate the Digital 6000. It was also confirmed that the key differences between the existing Digital 9000 and the Digital 6000, in addition to the fact that the latter is designed for the touring market as opposed to fixed installations, were that the 6000 includes Dante and forfeits the HD mode of the 9000 in favour of the long range transmission mode.
Following a pause for lunch and refreshments, the launch event resumed with director of customer development and application engineering, system solutions channel, Volker Schmitt welcoming those in attendance to get hands-on with the system during product demonstrations held throughout the afternoon. The opportunity to speak with those on the product development team was also offered.
That evening, Sennheiser transported attendees to nearby venue, Peppermint Park. During dinner, Swiss singer-songwriter Anna Rossinelli and her band performed live using the Digital 6000, showcasing its sound quality.
The following day, those that remained in Hanover were invited on a tour of the Sennheiser factory and to take part in Ambeo and HE-1 listening sessions.
More information on the Sennheiser Digital 6000 will be available in the March/April editions of Pro Audio Asia and Pro Audio MEA.
