Al Azhar mosque adds RCF solution

INDONESIA: Al Azhar mosque in the Kalimalang Bekasi suburb of Jakarta has become the first large house of worship to install an RCF TTL11A sound system. The mosque required a new system as its existing offering had a long reverberation time and poor mid-low sound making intelligibility a problem. The mosque also wanted the new offering to be simple to use and have a minimal visual impact as the original system had included 18 speakers distributed around the prayer hall. The new solution was installed by PT Kairos Multi Jaya.
After a meeting with the management of the mosque, the team suggested the RCF solution to cover the 40m by 50m with a 35m high dome building due to its directivity and extended lows. ‘They liked the proposal and they liked the slim design of the speaker,’ recalled Leo Tanzil, chief engineer at PT Kairos Multi Jaya. ‘They also asked us to demo the RCF speakers, which was the deal closer. They were amazed with the clarity of the voice reproduction and the reduction of the perceived reverb.’
The project saw four TTL11A columns installed on one wall and angled 10-degrees to cover the entire space. Added to this is an Allen & Heath iDR-8 matrix processor with DSP, an Allen & Heath PL-10 for remote control of the iDR-8, Shure SM58 mics as well as clip-on options from Audio-Technica.
The mosque is reported to be very happy with the new system as the iDR-8 allows presets for each praying time. With this happening at least five times a day, the automation has been a key feature for the solution.
