Audiovisual Engineering installs Citam Parklands

KENYA: Audiovisual Engineering has recently equipped the Parklands site of Christ Is The Answer Ministries (Citam) with a new audio and visual system. Citam Parklands is an English speaking multi-racial church attracting a weekly attendance of over 1,000 worshippers.
The church required new sound and visual systems and local installer Audiovisual Engineering won the tender to design and install the new solutions. ‘When we got this project we were very excited. Citam is one of the biggest religious organisations in East Africa so we knew we had to do a great job,’ said Antoine Cannella, the company’s technical manager. ‘Most of the local churches don't have acoustic plans but we were lucky, Citam had a team of professional people who understood the importance of a good sound and acoustics in a church.’
The audio system selected for the main PA was a Marc Audio Venus Series line array with the brand’s MH108 speakers to cover under the extensive balcony. Power is courtesy of Electro-Voice Q Series amplifiers and processing is via an XTA DP448. On stage, monitoring is via Electro-Voice ZLX15P speakers while all the cabling and stands are from Outrack.
The main challenge for this section of the project was the balcony height. ‘Having to install the line array at the main stage, we could only send sound to the people on the balcony and FOH,’ explained Mr Cannella. ‘We had to divide the system and set it as zones, one to focus above the balcony and the others to focus under.’
FOH is in a control room at the back of the balcony. Here, the PA is controlled via a Presonus StudioLive 32.4.2 mixer. It is also home to the DataVideo SE2000 video switcher and Kanexpro distribution system. Completing the visual system is projection via a Panasonic EX600EP 600 lumens projector.
‘There were many suppliers who tendered for the project, it was a very hard to choose which company would be the right one to award it to,’ recalled James S Ojwang, head of ICT at the church. ‘After a lot of meetings we chose Audiovisual Engineering Ltd. They had high end brands at affordable prices, but most importantly they were well known for their levels of support. After a lot of investigation we got a great deal of positive feedback from other churches about AVE. When the project finished we knew we made the right choice and our congregation is very happy.’
