Barowski AG brings Dynacord to church of St Thomas

WORLD: Barowski AG recently installed a number of Dynacord and Electro-Voice products into the church of St Thomas in Germany. Church elders decided to invest in a new sound reinforcement system that would not only do justice to the HOW’s diverse program of events, but that could also blend discretely into the surrounding architecture and be easy to operate.

The team led by managing director Michael Barowski opted to rely on systems from Dynacord and Electro-Voice for the project, including a Dynacord vertical array system made up of a single TS 400 full-range loudspeaker system on each side of the altar.

‘The loudspeakers deliver exactly what we had hoped,’ said Mr Barowski. ‘The 90 degree (h) by 40 degree (v) coverage angle measured was exactly that promised by the data sheet, and it proved ideal for this installation. We knew in advance what the system was capable of, so we were even able to dispense with a simulation – a decision that proved justified.’

Mr Barowski stated that upon hearing the system in action for the first time, ‘the Nuremberg sound specialists were astounded’, as they had originally planned to include a subwoofer. In the final design however, none were needed. ‘Driven with the full-range FIR preset, the TS 400 covers the entire frequency range from 74Hz to 20kHz at -10dB,’ said Mr Barowski. ‘Nothing more is needed under normal circumstances in a church of this size.’

To ensure they blended discreetly into the interior of the church, Mr Barowski and his team opted for a white custom finish. The TS 400 loudspeakers are complemented by S40 loudspeakers from Electro-Voice. Two and three cabinets serve the areas below and above the gallery respectively, whilst a further cabinet serves as a monitor for the organist and choir.

A two-channel PCL 1245 power amplifier drives the two TS 400 cabinets from Dynacord, whilst a four-channel PLC 1415 amplifies the signal to the S40s. A Dynacord P64 digital audio matrix manager controls the audio system with FIR filters that can be operated in comfort from a PWS wall panel.

‘The system is designed in such a way that, for church services, no one ever needs access to the rack,’ Mr Barowski furthered.  ‘To provide sound reinforcement for the mass, all that is required is to switch the system on from the central touch panel at the start of the service and off again at the end. In addition to this, the female pastor has a PWS of her own with which she can turn the microphone signal up or down.’
