CenterPoint Church installs Mackie DL32R in ‘Mini Hub’

USA: The CenterPoint Church required a sound system that was easy-to-use with a small footprint, but retained the features, sound quality, and convenience of digital technology for its recently constructed ‘Mini Hub’. Olympia based CCI Solutions designed and installed a Mackie DL32R rack-mount digital mixer as an audio solution, noting that the church had utilised Mackie products in the past with great success.
‘The Mackie DL32R works great for us,’ explains the CenterPoint Church pastor, Jonathan Cross. ‘We have a lot of Mackie gear and have always had good experiences with it, so we were confident that the DL32R would be the right solution for us.’
The Eatonville, Washington-based nondenominational church describes its ‘Mini Hub’ as a ‘pod-type building’, designed to be a versatile space that includes a small stage. It seats up to 60 worshippers for events and activities that often include music, therefore, the fact that only 3U is required for the DL32R was reportedly an important influence in the purchasing decision. The mixer has also been installed inside a custom-built media cabinet, allowing it to be transported outside or into the main sanctuary, should the console that resides there fail.
‘We don't even need outboard processors,’ Pastor Cross continues. ‘For instance, the mixer's EQ is our only room EQ. We mostly use the mixer in our small space but I wouldn't be afraid to use it in a much larger venue. We've also used the DL32R for outside events, for which we set up a stage outside the building and ran the mics to the mixer inside. The Wi-Fi has enough range that we were able to remotely control the DL32R from the outdoor stage, without having to bring the rack outside.’
In addition to the DL32R, the cabinet houses wireless equipment, a laptop, and charges the iPad that has been installed with the Mackie Master Fader app. CenterPoint plays host to contemporary style services that feature an amplified band, and the church’s ministries have also made use of the sound system for a range of events and activities, often including music. ‘The various ministries use similar instrumentation but their setups are not exactly the same,’ notes Pastor Cross. ‘With the DL32R, we were able to set up multiple mixer scenes, so now each ministry calls up the scene they need, and they're ready to go.’
