Clay Paky lights up Israel Houghton DVD recording

WORLD: A plethora of Clay Paky Stage Zoom 1200 and Alpha Spot HPE 700 fixtures were recently utilised for the DVD and CD recording of Christian singer Israel Houghton’s latest album, ‘Jesus at the Center’ at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston, where the singer is also a worship leader.

Matt Moreland of Wave Productions was appointed lighting designer and director for the project, which had to reflect the Grammy Award-winning artist’s musical style. ‘The look of the show was sometimes very rock and roll, sometimes dramatic and moody and sometimes very high energy,’ he said. ‘It complemented the music which ranged from Latin to rap to a more traditional gospel sound.’

Mr Moreland chose 10 Stage Zoom 1200 moving heads and six Alpha Spot HPE 700s to fill the space at the church. ‘It’s a full arena-size room, so I needed fixtures that were bright and had a great zoom,’ he explained. ‘I needed nice long beams but also wanted them to zoom out really wide.’ The Clay Pakys were part of a full-automated lighting rig controlled by a grandMA console.

‘I was very impressed with the Clay Paky fixtures’ performance – they were great!’ he added. ‘It was my first time using the 1200s, too. They did exactly what I needed them to do.’

Ken Johnson was the production manager for the project and Josh Beard and Jonathan Woelfel served as lighting technicians. ACT Lighting is the distributor for Clay Paky in North America.
