CrossRoads Church goes iLive

CANADA: Located at the intersection of Highway 2 and 32 Street in Red Deer, Alberta, the aptly named CrossRoads Church has seen the installation of several Allen & Heath mixers throughout the six rooms that comprise the campus. The systems, which were supplied and installed by local rental company and systems integrator Parkland Audio, ranged from the manufacturer’s compact Qu family to the larger iLive Series.
‘CrossRoads needed a future-proof mixer that was flexible for the next phases in construction,’ explains the church’s technical director, Wally Hildebrandt. For the main sanctuary, which seats a capacity of 1,150, Parklands installed an iLive-176 modular control surface at FOH, alongside iDR10 MixRack dual racks serving as monitors with an iLive-T112. The main sanctuary has an audio link with the other five rooms that make up the church.
The CrossRoads church also includes a couple of spill rooms to accommodate an overflow of worshippers. The first, a 300-seat chapel has been fitted with an iDR-32 MixRack, iLive-T80 surface controller and a PL10 remote controller. Meanwhile, the second spill room serves as the facility’s multi-purpose Youth Room and has been equipped with the Qu-24 compact digital mixer to assist in the hosting of the youth congregation, providing a community space for events such as concerts, and serving as an activity room.
An iDR-48 MixRack and an additional iLive-T112 surface are used for mixing live streams, rehearsals and recording in the church’s studio. This system is connected to the main sanctuary via a Dante network, which also connects 10 ME-1 monitor mixers and a ME-U hub. A further Qu-24 was installed in the music room, catering for rehearsals, while the theatre room has been kitted out with a Zed-436, which was designed by Allen & Heath with houses of worship and theatres in mind.
‘iLive also sounded good, and ease of use was of great importance, as it is crucial to have the capability to simplify the mixing process for the wide range of technicians and volunteers,’ concludes Mr Hildebrandt. ‘It was also important that each subsequent room had a similar work flow and ease of use, hence A&H mixers were selected for all other phases implemented.’
