CTS prepares for HD in Korea

KOREA: Christian Television System (CTS) has adopted Kona I/O video capture hardware manufactured by California-based AJA Video Systems, as part of a developing complement of post-production equipment for its widespread worship broadcasting. Viewers of CTS’s 24-hour output in Korea and beyond amount to some 10 million.

CTS post-production is based on Apple’s Final Cut Pro software, currently employing 14 Kona cards but with preparations underway for an upgrade to HD. For this upgrade, CTS is said to be considering AJA’s Ki Pro recording device. ‘Ki Pro could be used as a VTR and provides full HD images,’ explained Myoung-Kwan Kim, director of CTS’s Purchasing Department. ‘And it’s much more cost effective than a VTR, so when we use it for playback we could equip the HD system more effectively.

‘AJA products are excellent and their prices are reasonable,’ said Mr Kim. ‘That allows us to produce high quality content. Kona cards are also contributing to the production of high quality content, providing us the best image input/output. To successfully perform the multimedia mission on a limited budget, high-performing equipment capable of high-definition images at a reasonable price is really necessary. I believe that AJA products are fully capable of providing excellent results that allow us to create high quality content for multimedia mission activities.’

Religious organisations such as CTS are run by donation, and are duly aware of the need for ‘wise purchasing’ in the drive to provide better service to Christian audiences. The combination of Kona cards and Final Cut Pro is described by CTS as ‘the best value for the price’. High image quality is said to be essential because original content is regularly re-purposed for other media transmissions, such as internet broadcasting. The core CATV and satellite TV output is supported by 43 shareholding religious associations and undergoes rigorous non-linear editing before transmission.

‘The AJA Kona card is the perfect choice for CTS, since it provides image input/output without any image deterioration,’ added Mr Kim.
