Digital power aids worship in Chungju Central Full Gospel Church

KOREA: Seoul-based distributor Dasan SR recently supplied a sound reinforcement solution for the new home of Chungju Central Full Gospel Church. Comprising EAW loudspeakers and Powersoft digital amplifiers, the equipment was delivered as part of an overall installation by regional systems integration company Loggins.
Based in the South Korea’s Chungcheong province and home to some 3,000 worshippers, Chungju Central Full Gospel Church was founded in 1957. Its new home was completed in June of 2014, complete with new sound reinforcement systems in both its main sanctuary and smaller Middle Worship Hall.
The large, wide principal worship space is now served by an EAW KF740 system comprising 16 elements flown eight per-side in a left-right configuration. Low-end extension is delivered by SB1001 subwoofers. Five Powersoft K10 DSP+AESOP amplifiers provide power for the low frequencies, while three further K10s power the midrange and three K3 DSP+AESOP units drive high frequencies. Two further K10 devices are assigned to the SB1001 subs. Crucially, the inclusion of Powersoft’s DSP+AESOP system amounts to a fully integrated power source including sound shaping and system management capabilities, all remotely controllable via the manufacturer’s proprietary Armonía Pro Audio Suite software.
Elsewhere in the sanctuary, six front-fills are driven by Powersoft M28Q HDSP+ETH 4-channel power amps (with DSP and Ethernet functionality), while seven under-balcony speakers are driven by M50Q HDSP+ETH amps from the Italian manufacturer. Five further M30D HDSP+ETH are assigned to the 10 EAW stage monitors that provide fold-back sound for the pastor and worship band.
Elsewhere in the building, the smaller Middle Worship Hall acts as an overflow area for the main sanctuary as well as hosting events in its own right. A similar front of house system has been installed, comprising 14 elements of EAW’s more compact KF720 line array flown in left-right hangs of seven elements per-side. Two K2 AESOP+DSP amplifiers have been assigned to the HF section while two K3 DSP+AESOP are dedicated to the lower frequencies and a single K10 AESOP+DSP serves the main system’s four subwoofers. Once again the in-fill speakers have been assigned to Powersoft’s four-channel M50Q HDSP+ETH, including front-fill speakers and under-balcony enclosures. Finally, M30D and M50Q amplifiers are assigned respectively to the monitors on stage.
Reflecting on the overall installation in his new church, director Ham Sungyoung was delighted with the results. ‘This is my first use of digital power amplifiers,’ he explained, ‘and although the Powersoft K series is compact and light it is also powerful, which is very admirable.’
