Electro-Voice brings clarity to Hwakwang Church

KOREA: Kevic, Inc recently installed an Electro-Voice sound reinforcement system into the Hwakwang Church in Korea.

With over 16,000 followers, Hwakwang church is located at Sangha-dong, Kiheung-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, and has three other braches at Suwon, Boondang and Pyeongtaek. The main church opened in 2004, and recently began the search for a new sound reinforcement system to support its sermons and live church band worship sessions.

The church hall’s fan-shaped design presented a challenge due to its narrow stage depth, which made for a concentration of sound in the front section of the hall. Furthermore, there was a very wide reflection surface area at the second balcony, which meant that the semi-professional band found that the sound would reflect back at them.

With this problem in mind, the pastor and the church sound engineer approached Bosch, trusting in an Electro-Voice’s solution. Bosch’s solution involved a precise array aiming, avoiding the reflective area by installing subwoofers at the middle of the main cluster.

The new system includes Electro-Voice’s XLE181 and XS212 for the main systems, along with Xsub and FRI2082-WHT subwoofers and P1200RL power amplifiers, amongst others. In addition, various EV products were installed to ensure the front-fill speakers had similar voice tone, while EV DX46 was specifically adopted to control the sound pressure level and delay time. In this way, the voice tone is more consistent from the front to the back of the hall.

End-users have noted an increased vocal clarity due the consistency in voice tone and level throughout, which has helped for both sermons and worship songs.
