KOREA: An Allen & Heath GLD digital mixing system was recently installed into Galilee Church in Ulsan, South Korea. The project was undertaken by Daiyoung Sound, in collaboration with Sama ProSound Co Ltd, Allen & Heath’s South Korean distributor. Alongside the GLD, the manufacturer's ME-1 personal monitors and Qu-16 compact digital mixer were also used.
The 40-year-old church's newest 800-capacity building, consists of a main worship area, seminar rooms, a library, and a café for church members and the local community.
Galilee Church specifically requested a separate monitor system for the worship team’s singers and instrument players. Joon-ho Choi, director of Daiyoung Sound, selected the GLD with a separate ME-1 personal monitoring system to meet this need. With a lack of full-time audio engineers, the church was initially sceptical about moving to digital. However, the benefits that the GLD demonstrated convinced it to invest.
The project took a year to complete, with five months dedicated to the broadcast, cabling, and audio systems. Mr Choi set up the system so it is possible to control both the FOH position and the control room at the same time. The GLD-80 surface was chosen for FOH, with the audio racks positioned at the side of the stage connected via a single Cat-5 cable.
‘The musicians are very satisfied with the monitor system, especially the ME-1,'said Mr Choi. 'It delivers realistic sound and makes them focus on their playing,’
The Qu-16 mixer has been installed in the control room and manages the recording, playback and broadcasting system. ‘Qu-16 has both touch screen and motorised faders, and this was the main point for the church,’ added Mr Choi. ‘Of course, the USB recording function and the high audio quality were also very attractive points.
‘Galilee church is the first church to have installed both the GLD/ME-1 and Qu-16,’ he concluded. ‘I truly hope that the systems continue helping the church to achieve a stable and comfortable environment for all its members.’
