Iconyx solves intelligibility issues at First Baptist Church

WORLD: With an aging, neglected and now unsatisfactory sound system at the First Baptist Church of Shawnee, Oklahoma, it was time for an upgrade. The church leaders and congregation had both become increasingly frustrated with the intelligibility and coverage issues plaguing the main sanctuary and opted to equip the building with two pairs of Renkus-Heinz Iconyx column speakers recommended to them by AVL Systems Design.

‘The main sanctuary seats about 800 people, and has a balcony area in the rear,’ explained Danny Nix of AVL Systems. ‘In addition to the intelligibility and coverage problems with the old system, there were reflection issues that needed to be addressed.’

Four Iconyx IC Live ICL-FR-Dual columns were ceiling hung to avoid damaging the walls. ‘We used the IC Live's beam steering capabilities to fill the balcony and the main floor of the church and we used four Renkus-Heinz PNX61 Two-Way Complex Conic Loudspeaker Systems for under balcony coverage,’ furthered Mr Nix. ‘The IC Live's beam steering technology eliminated the need for front fills, which made for a cleaner look overall. As a final touch, we painted the boxes to match the colour of the walls.’

Following the installation, Mr Nix reports that the church officials are very pleased that the new Iconyx system has not only solved their previous issues but also ‘matches the interior décor seamlessly’.
