iLive simplifies operations for the Great Reformed Church

WORLD: Located in the Hungarian city of Debrechen, the Great Reformed Church recently commissioned a complete overhaul of its existing audio systems as it looked for a new infrastructure capable of broadcasting services and accommodating performances from its worship band. Krisztian Varga from pro audio specialist Audmax was tasked with designing a flexible system capable of patching to and from multiple areas of the church while also providing simple ‘one-touch’ operation for routine services. The resulting system features an Allen & Heath iLive iDR10 MixRack at its core with reinforcement provide by white L-Acoustics Kiva main arrays and additional 5XT speakers.
With a footprint spanning 1,500 sq-m and capacity for 5,000, the Great Reformed Church is the largest protestant church in the country, and as such required a reasonably complicated system to fully cater to all areas. For everyday services, however, the iDR10 is remote controlled via a single Allen & Heath PL-10 with large red and green buttons custom designed for ease of use by the pastor. Hitting the green button runs the system in ‘normal’ mode, allowing for only limited control over the microphone and main PA.
For use during concerts, the system can be augmented with a mobile iLive T-80 Surface and iDR-32 MixRack, and can also be controlled via the iLive MixPad iPad app or via a laptop running iLive Editor software. For large-scale performances the iDR-32 and iDR10 can be connected to operate as a single dual-rack system and controlled by the T-80 Surface.
‘The new audio system is amazing,’ enthused Pastor Csongor Széles. ‘The automation behind the big green button and the invisibility of the mixing system is astonishing!’
