K-Array convinces church leaders

HONDURAS: The new temple of Ebenezer Church has installed a complete audio system from Italy’s K-Array brand, made up of nine KH4, six KS4 subs and three KH15s for front-of-house. KR200s have been used as front-fills in front of the stage, at 6m intervals, to cover the first few rows.

The temple is capable of holding 7,000 adults, plus 1,500 children, its entire circular structure specifically designed to get the best acoustic results. Brothers Rui and Victor Prado, co-owners of Musical Garage, oversaw the installation.

‘The music leaders of the church had only worked with big speaker clusters before,’ said Mr Rui Prado, ‘and when they saw the K-array line-array clusters they were somewhat doubtful. It’s hard to convince people with just words. You have to let them hear it.’

The acoustics of the venue, together with the compact technology of the speakers, ensured that the system could be heard in every part of the temple structure. The KH4s, KH15s and the subs were divided into left and right FOH, with a third central cluster above the middle of the stage. At 70m x 70m the church is very deep but, despite this, the difference between the sound at front and back is described as minimal.

Another key part of the installation is the on-stage monitoring. Eight KK50 Kobras with eight KKS50 subs have been deployed horizontally as front monitors along the rim of the stage. Their slim profile ensures that they can easily be hidden from view behind a low ridge. All areas of the 35m wide stage are covered, which means that musicians and speakers can move freely around the stage without any variation in their foldback. There are also four coaxial monitors for the two choir areas to the left and right of the stage, and a KF12 used as a 12-inch coaxial monitor for the pastor, which can be moved as needed.

The system exceeded everyone’s expectations, according to Mr Rui Prado. ‘They were so happy they cried,’ he said. ‘The five-day opening celebration was a great success.’
