Kangnam Joongang Baptist Church upgrades at 40

KOREA: The Seoul-based Kangnam Joongang Baptist Church recently celebrated it 40th birthday. As part of the celebrations, the church decided to upgrade its audio mixing capabilities as a worship band forms part of its services.
The upgrade saw the church invest in several Allen & Heath systems. To manage FOH, a dLive system comprising a S5000 Surface was installed with a DM48 MixRack deployed onstage. An ME personal mixing system consisting of an ME-U hub and five ME-1 mini mixers handles monitors.
‘The S5000’s user interface is superb – I can reach every function in just one or two touches and in several different ways,’ explains Sanghun Kim, media manager at Kangnam Joongang Baptist Church. ‘It is nice for an engineer to be able to adjust everything to his own taste. For me, the dual touchscreen is essential, and dLive has a super-fast response, and natural touch like a smartphone. The 26 user-defined soft keys are amazing, and there are the four custom rotaries, meaning there are plenty of options. All of these features give the opportunity to experience an entirely new way of live mixing.’
Meanwhile, the worship band’s bass player, Daehee Kim, has been gaining experience with the personal mixing system. ‘I have tried other personal mixers but the ME is on another level,’ says Mr Kim. ‘The sound quality is as if it came from a recording studio, the stereo image and density of the sound are really good. It also has a built-in microphone and you can plug in your 3.5mm jack. These are small details but the small things can affect the way you play during a performance.
