Karura Community Chapel goes digital

KENYA: At 20 years old, the Karura Community Chapel, based in Nairobi, has grown over the decades to boast an average attendance of approximately 1,600 congregants. With an audience of such mass, the chapel decided that it required an upgrade from its existing analogue mixer, opting to go digital with an Allen & Heath Qu-32. Sound Creations Ltd, the local partner of Allen & Heath’s distributor, Paxt, was called upon to facilitate the installation.

The Karura Community Chapel reportedly selected the Qu-32 digital mixing console due to its sound quality, effects engine, mixing and output options, and the ability to accommodate 32 channels on a single layer. Also taken into account was the device’s simplicity, which enables volunteers to use it, as well as the cost considerations. In addition to the mixer, Sound Creations also installed dBTechnologies DVA T4 line array speakers at the sanctuary.

‘Most of my installations begin with a Qu mixer,’ noted Mike Rutherford, project manager at Sound Creations, adding: ‘I recommend it to any Church that enjoys good sound on a great board. The system sounds great.’

‘I think the new sound system has awakened the members of Karura Community Chapel,’ added the chapel’s sound technician, Mr Kaka. ‘People who used to turn up late to worship now run so that they don't miss it!’
