Kling & Freitag’s Sequenza 10 debuts at Korean church

SOUTH KOREA: Kling & Freitag has announced the first installation of its Sequenza 10 line array system at the Korean Grace and Truth Church in Seoul. Kusan Acoustic was commissioned with the planning and installation of the sound system for the 4,500 capacity HOW.
The modern and representative church serves the community not only as a place of worship, but it also acts as the centre of the local religious community. The church organises, among other things, various teaching programmes, music, choral singing, concerts and other cultural events such as a Christmas music festival.
Due to the house of worship’s high-domed ceiling and the distance separating the pulpit and the back wall, the church was an acoustically challenging space. The large main hall comprises 4,500 seats on two floors, while more space is available for further religious activities. In addition, the large open room contains a substantial balcony, which required very precise positioning and orientation of the installed sound system.
The selected Sequenza 10 comprised nine units per side, whilst Kusan Acoustic also installed additional Kling & Freitag speakers directly into the forestage, as well as ceiling speakers to amplify the back row seats beneath the balcony. All speakers are controlled by the central interface of a Kling & Freitag SystemRack with an integrated CD-44 system controller.
The two main vertical arrays, left and right of the altar below the ceiling, consist of three parts with three speakers each. The upper third of the speaker system is directed towards the seats on the intermediate floor, which are much further away.
The middle group of three speakers covers the middle area and the area below the balcony, whilst the lower group effectively covers the bottom front seats in the front rows.
Meanwhile, two oversized LED screens were also built into the wall, to the left and to the right of the altar, and subdued lights are used to provide a backdrop for church services. Everything can be centrally controlled from the production room, enabling live broadcasts and digital recordings for radio, television and the internet.
The Kling & Freitag CA106 and CA1001 speakers efficiently amplify the volume in the back rows, and the sound quality has been described as ‘very well balanced overall, easy to use and creates a good atmosphere during church services and concerts’.
