Malaysian Mega Church Sound Workshop to take place in May

MALAYSIA: Renowned consultant and trainer Robert Soo will be the main speaker at the Mega Sound Workshop 2013 event, which is aiming to help improve audio in houses of worship throughout Malaysia. The workshop is the latest in a famous series of events that began in 2001 and have since trained hundreds of church audio technicians from all over Malaysia. It will take place from May 23rd to 25th at Malaysia’s Mega Chinese Methodist Church in Petaling Jaya.
Aimed at ‘churches of all denominations that have the desire to grow their knowledge and experience in managing their local church sound systems’, the workshop will include topics such as sound reinforcement systems, system components and set-up, the features and functions of both analogue and digital mixers, the basics of sound mixing, stage monitoring for singers and musicians, the best use of microphones, the use of cables and recording techniques.
Sponsors for the event, meanwhile, include QSC amplifiers and loudspeakers from Octodecim Akustik Sdn Bhd, KV2 loudspeakers and Allen & Heath mixing consoles from Sindo Exports Pte Ltd, and Audio-Technica microphones from Audio-Technica, Malaysia.
As principle speaker at the event, Robert Soo will offer an unbiased and extremely knowledgeable window into professional sound production. Mr Soo is the principal consultant and trainer at Cogent Acoustics, specialising in house of worship A/V. During his career he has worked with numerous churches and Christian organisations in Singapore and beyond for more than 20 years. He is also the former chairman and advisor of the Singapore chapter of the Audio Engineering Society, and spent seven years serving as full-time technical director and worship pastor in a 10,000 member church.
Also speaking on at the workshop will be Mr Chua, who boasts 40 years of experience in church A/V, and professional studio engineer Ian Chris.
