Masjid Al-Istighfar mosque gets first FOH system

SINGAPORE: Masjid Al-Istighfar mosque on Pasir Ris Walk has upgraded the audio in its main prayer hall by installing its first FOH system. The TOA line array solution that met this need was supplied and installed – along with the other A/V equipment for the project – by regional systems integrator Esco.
As part of the project, Esco has equipped Majid Al-Istighfar with a media distribution system for mosque information and announcements to various display monitors on each storey, a digital signal processor for configuration of the wide range of audio parameters, as well as a Crestron control system and PTZ camera control system for the control room. Perhaps the most significant part of the installation, however, has been the compact full range line array speaker system with dual subwoofer and high-powered amplifiers that has been fitted to provide the audio in the venue.
‘Previously the mosque did not have a front of house audio system,’ explained a company spokesperson for Esco. ‘Only the 6-inch public address ceiling speakers were in use for the prayers, which were not able to produce the required audio intelligibility. The mosque therefore required a front of house professional audio solution that could cover each of its three storeys.’
To fulfil this need, the mosque opted for a TOA HX-5 solution hung three per side in an L-R configuration, supported by a single FB-120 sub at the top of each array for low end. Each of the six HX-5s is made up of four pre-assembled modules that can be adjusted to the appropriate dispersion angle to 60-, 45-, 30-, or 15-degrees, enabling the integrator to ensure the whole venue received the required coverage. Power for the system comes via five Electro-Voice Q99 Class-H amplifiers situated in the control room.
Also filling the racks in the control room is equipment from Extron’s MVX Series and MTP Series, as well as a Crestron AV2 dual bus control system. The room also houses further Electro-Voice amps as well as equipment from DOD and ClearOne. Completing the setup in the control room is a further HX-5 unit to provide an audio feed of the proceedings in the main prayer hall.
