WORLD: Outline Audio loudspeaker systems have been used to help spread the Pope’s holy message recently. A crowd of 250,000 worshippers – according to a police estimate – lined the Plain of Sibari in Italy to hear the inspirational speech. Despite the massive audience, rental company Dee Jay Service opted to use the manufacturer’s Butterfly and Mantas loudspeaker systems, which were distributed by Mods Art, Outline’s Italian distributor.
A stage 50m by 25m was erected for the event, along with the installation of four maxi-screens, 200 chemical toilets and 20 km of barriers. Seating was provided for 35,000, however the complete area requiring sound coverage totalled 650m by 250m, with the resulting Outline rig comprising 56 Butterfly modules, 24 Mantas modules and 24 Subtech 218s for the low frequencies.
‘We received flattering feedback from RAI TV and Vatican Radio for the clear reproduction of Pope Francis’s message and the even distribution of the sound over the entire area,’ remarked Dee Jay Service owner, Remo Florio.
Two Outline DVS 8, two H.A.R.D. 212 stage monitors and two H.A.R.D. 115 speakers were installed in the vicinity of the Papal chair. Additional H.A.R.D. 212 monitors were provided for the choir, while Tripla, Doppia and DVS 10 enclosures covered other areas of the stage.
‘Looking back,’ continued Mr Florio, ‘I think that anybody else would have thought of fielding a large-format PA, whereas Butterfly is a compact 30kg PA. We believe the key to a line array’s success is in its aiming, particularly if the system is precise, and the fact that the Butterfly performs like a “laser beam” is no secret.’
‘I’m very pleased that once again the Outline network worked wonderfully,’ concluded Luigi Lombardi of Mods Art. ‘It was founded with the intent of supporting our clients with the most important stages of their work. In fact, collaboration between companies has become fundamental and the network is the best response to the current market situation.’
