Philips Vari-Lite discontinues VL550 8OV luminaire

WORLD: Automated lighting system manufacturer, Philips Vari-Lite, has announced the discontinuation of the VL550 80V Wash luminaire product line, but will continue to offer the VL550, VL550D, and the VL550CD Wash luminaires.
The decision has been spurred by its focus on energy-efficient lighting as well as the reported success of its VLX Wash luminaire. Philips Vari-Lite believes these technologies have surpassed the benefits provided by the VL550 80V lamp.
‘Philips Vari-Lite has dedicated our most recent technology developments to the successful real-world application of energy-efficient lighting technologies,’ stated Bob Schacherl, vice president of sales and marketing. ‘We have seen great success with the VLX Wash and the patented LED technology driving the VLX light engine offers everything that we desired from the VL550 80V lamp, and much more.’
Although production of the VL550 80V has been discontinued, technical and service support will continue.
