Plasa worship seminars praised

WORLD: A range of ‘Technologies For Worship’ seminars that were recently held at Plasa 2012 in London were deemed a success by an industry expert.

A well attended event at the Technologies for Worship Pavilion was an informative ‘Lighting for Video’ seminar led by Stephen Ellison, product specialist at SeaChanger, who educated a combination of technical volunteers, lighting engineers, video technicians, worship leaders and purchasers as to how to create correct and effective lighting for video.

‘They were pleased with the topic and came away with new knowledge,’ enthused Mr Ellison. Mr Ellison also presented a ‘Tasteful Lighting For Worship’ seminar where he covered colour use, front and back lighting, in addition to how to handle lighting for the sermon versus the worship segment of a service.

‘I think that the topics chosen covered a good range of technologies,’ he continued. ‘I listened in on several of the seminars and in each case I learned something new. The typical church technician is a volunteer who does not work in the industry for a living so they need a place like this to get good training.’

The comprehensive range of seminars included sessions named: ‘Building Healthy Volunteer Teams’ presented by Jess Stark, business and project manager at Stark Raving Solutions, ‘Can You Hear Me At The Back?’ lead by Oran Burns, education and application support at d&b audiotechnik, and ‘Getting the most from your IEM or Personal Monitor Mix System’, presented by Tom Knesel, chief technology officer at Pivitec.

Additional seminars included: ‘UK Church Case Study’, ‘Streaming Audio and Video Content to the Web’, ‘Video Systems for Worship’, ‘The "Smoking Gun" of Audio’, ‘Getting Your Message Out: Tuning Systems for Intelligibility and Feedback Reduction’, ‘What's in your toolbox?’ ‘Abstract Mixing’ and ‘The Mix Musician’.

‘Each year the class sizes grow, so I think that the church market is growing and this show is the place for them to see the gear and get training,’ furthered Mr Ellison. ‘I would like to go back next year and right now that is the plan’.
