UAE: The recently inaugurated Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan mosque in Fujairah has been equipped with a sound system from RCF. The public address system installation was handled by Dubai-based systems integrator, Oasis PPD.
With a capacity of 28,000 and an internal area of 39,000 sq-m, it is the second largest mosque in the country. Architecturally it features 65 domes and six minarets with the decoration inside consisting of marble, gold-plated accessories and hand-woven carpets. As such, it is a highly reverberant space and the main challenge was to attain good intelligibility across the entire listening area without neglecting the requirement for minimum visual impact.
The main audio system consists of 12 white RCF VSA 2050 multi-amplified digitally steerable columns. The steerable solution was selected to keep acoustic energy away from the ceiling and walls to help minimise the reverberation. A further eight L2406-T three-way column speakers, also in white, have been used as delay lines and sound reinforcement in smaller areas inside the mosque. Completing the internal solution are 16 CS 6940 column speakers, which have been installed in hallways and small secondary rooms.
Outside, the mosque’s main courtyard is covered by six of the Italian manufacturer’s P 4228 weatherproof two-way loudspeakers. Finally, the minaret horns comprise 18 HD 410 horn speakers and a further 14 H 6045 horn speakers. These were both reportedly selected for their long throw and high SPL.
