Renovation and retrofit for Jesus My King

SINGAPORE: Located at the top of a five story building, Singapore’s Jesus My King church on soon wing road recently had its worship hall renovated and retrofitted with new A/V technology. With the new system clearly a priority, the church’s senior pastor Steven Francis made an early decision to engage Robert Soo of Cogent Acoustics as the consultant to help design the A/V solution.

The physical attributes of the hall presented several difficulties for the project. After fitting in the desired number of seats, the floor area was left with little room for the stage and the FOH A/V booth. ‘Supporting pillars within the wide fan shaped hall and a low ceiling height of only 2.47m made it very challenging visually and acoustically to accommodate the church’s vibrant and highly energetic services,’ recalled Mr Soo. The consultant subsequently designed a system that fitted well within the physical constraints as well as delivered the desired quality sound and visual experience for the congregation.

A Presonus 24 channel digital mixer and Ashly Protea 3.SP were selected for the signal processing and routing. While distributed active QSC K10 and K8 loudspeakers in horizontal orientation with KW181 subwoofers are put to use for the FOH sound. A myMix personal monitoring system and a 2Box electronic drum set were purposefully designed in to deal with the limited stage space and noise management.

Much of the needed visuals are provided by distributed Samsung 55- and 40-inch LED TVs. Video management is via a Datavideo SE600 switcher/mixer and several Extron devices.

The company selected to install the new equipment was Audio Image Engineering. According to Mr Soo the systems integrator ‘successfully completed the installation in good time’.
