RFA moves to an all-LED Elation setup

WORLD: An all-LED Elation lighting system comprising more than 100 fixtures has been installed at Raleigh First Assembly Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Having recently undergone a renovation to transform the building from its previous use as a manufacturing facility into a dedicated 1,600-seat worship space, church leaders enlisted the services of creative AVL design and build company, CDS Group Inc.

'Essentially, only the shell of the building remained and the entire interior is completely new,' commented Doug Hood, president of CSD Group. 'This church has a dynamic teaching ministry and a very powerful worship experience. Particularly for worship, we wanted to create an immersive experience where we could really enhance visually what they were already doing musically.'

The LED package was selected to provide power savings over conventional fixtures in addition to the benefits of no bulb changes, less heat produced and a lack of dimmer racks. CSD designed the solution in partnership with Elation engineers. 'Elation has been a strong partner with CSD for quite some time and since they provide excellent products and great support it was a natural fit to call on them for this project,' explained Mr Hood. 'During worship the house lights are run very low which can be a challenge for maintaining a clean camera shot. To compensate for this we used several Lumina Strips as footlights/uplights across the front edge of the stage. This gives us proper facelight so we can keep the people on stage visible while still running the house lights low. It performed just as we expected.'

In addition to the 12 Lumina strips, CSD installed 12 DW Profiles to provide general stage wash lighting. Mounted on downstage trusses and across upstage pipes for effects lighting are a variety of other Elation fixtures including 12 ELED QW LED strips, four full-colour Cuepix Panel LED matrices, 16 Level Q7 PAR LEDs, 10 Rayzor Q12 Zoom LED moving heads and SixPar LED colour changers. Six Satura Spot LED Pro moving heads, located both front and back, are used for colour and mid-air effects.

Mr Hood thanks the Elation team and Danny Collins and Charlie Perkins at Raleigh First Assembly Church for their support on the project. 'They were both a joy to work with and our entire team at CSD felt a real connection with them,' recalled Mr Hood. 'From the start we felt like we were really partnering with them to build something special and in the end the new RFA facility truly is a special installation. It goes beyond the technology. It really is a space built for worship.'
