Spectrum solves clarity issues for Galilee Bible church

SINGAPORE: Singapore-based systems integrator Spectrum Audio recently installed a new vocal system into the Galilee Bible Presbyterian Church.

The church required a system that would emphasise the preacher’s vocals while making sermons – an issue that was previously attributed to a perceived lack of clarity and low frequency combined with low volume levels in the balcony.

Spectrum’s solution was to supply the church with a new dbx DriveRack 260 loudspeaker management system to work alongside the existing Soundcraft Spirit LX7 mixer and JBL Control 28 speakers. Spectrum system engineer Yeo Ren Kang tuned the system onsite to optimise the sound in the church, selecting correct frequency ranges for the speakers’ crossover settings to improve clarity and remove the perceived ‘muddiness’, whilst increasing the gain for certain frequency ranges to improve vocal clarity.

The overall gain of the balcony speakers’ amplifier input was also increased to solve the balcony clarity issues. Meanwhile, tuning the frequency response to achieve more high and mid-high frequencies also enhanced the speaker presence on the balcony.

‘The processor has performed without trouble, and we are happy with the overall sound quality,’ commented Samuel Xie, a member of the church’s sound team. ‘The sound clarity up in the balcony is much improved, and this has been noticed by members of the congregation.’
