Trinity@Paya Lebar chooses Martin for exterior lighting

SINGAPORE: Situated at the side of a prominent intersection just outside Singapore’s city limits, Trinity Christian Centre – aka Trinity@Paya Lebar – has installed an exterior lighting solution comprising Martin Professional products. Designed to imitate the canyons of Israel’s desert, the building’s beige-coloured facade mimics the folds of the desert landscape. ONG&ONG (Lighting Design) was commissioned to design an enhanced replacement architectural lighting concept to replicate the hues and colours of the sky. The equipment was supplied and installed by Kurihara Kogyo Co Ltd.

‘Our task was to enhance and improve the existing architectural features at night,’ commented Swee Hong Ong, director of ONG&ONG (Lighting Design). ‘To ensure the success of the lighting design we had to conduct various onsite tests and consider the surroundings and conditions before we could propose our idea for the new design. This process is a lot more demanding than designing a new project from scratch.’

Prior to the installation, a series of ‘shootouts’ were performed, with the Martin products chosen for the project because of their wash quality and colour rendition.

‘The Exterior range from Martin proved to have the rich, saturated colour wash that we were looking for,’ added Ms Ong. ‘The fixtures are easily controllable and unlike the other fixtures we tested, the exact calibration enables all the fixtures to display the same colours.’

With the new lighting system in place, pre-programmed sequences display messages of faith and joy to spectators, and colours and projected patterns work to reinforce the architecture.

‘Apart from depicting the sky, as an added benefit the colour scenes we’ve worked on together with Trinity also relate to events and festivities celebrated by the church,’ she concluded. ‘The animated scenes and effects would not have been possible without our great installer, Kurihara Kogyo. We are very happy with the result we achieved together.’
