DWR prepares for Germany trip

SOUTH AFRICA: Gareth Chambers and Jannie de Jager of DWR Distribution are set to travel to MA Lighting’s hometown of Paderborn in Germany to take part in a training week hosted by the manufacturer. The training will explore the MA Networking and MA Network Switch, as well as providing Fixture Library tips and how to get the most from grandMA2 Macros, VPU and MA3D with real world examples given. The visit underlines the distributor’s commitment to providing a strong technical service and will allow Mr Chambers and Mr de Jager, as well as head of technical Bruce Riley, to deliver improved product support and training for MA Lighting.

‘I am feeling confident and enjoy the challenge of being able to help the guys in the industry with service and support. It’s really nice to have the responsibility of being the first point of contact and I’m up for the task. MA is constantly evolving which means there is never stagnation and always something new,’ said Mr Chambers. His former colleague, Nick Britz, who recently relocated back to the UK, was reportedly an avid MA Lighting enthusiast. ‘For the past five years, I have been Nick Britz’ understudy, and at the end of last year, I underwent intensive one-on-one training with him,’ Mr Chambers added.

Mr de Jager is still relatively new to DWR Distribution, having joined the company a few months ago. His role thus far has involved shadowing the technical support team. He was first introduced into the entertainment industry via a friend and began his career in the rental division at Prosound, before moving into ETC sales.

‘I’ve always been a geek and a gadget freak, playing around on computers, gaming, getting my head around the technical and figuring things out,’ said Mr de Jager. ‘Of course I enjoy lighting, design and technology but it’s the people in the industry that are so nice making it easy to be positive.’

‘It has been great working with Jannie,’ enthused Mr Chambers. ‘He is a fast learner and has been a big help. We make a great team.’

‘Jannie’s humble and friendly manner have made an impression on me, and even a few years back, I remember noticing his approach and willingness,’ concluded DWR director, Duncan Riley. ‘He fits in with Bruce Riley and Gareth’s admirable spirit that nothing is too big or too difficult.’
